Camcorder media types demystified

If you are like me you get confused by all the different types of camcorders out there.
Not being a technophile I sometimes find all the details difficult to read and understand. It is however very important to consider the pros and cons of each format before making such a big purchase as you will most likely have your camcorder for years to come.
